Robeco announced the departures of Thiemo Lang, lead portfolio manager on RobecoSAM Smart Energy Equities and RobecoSAM Smart Mobility Equities, and his two supporting analysts, Guenther Hollfelder and Thomas Guennegues. It is not clear where they are moving to yet.
The strategy previously earned People and Process Pillar ratings of Above Average and carried a Morningstar Analyst Rating of Silver across all share classes.
His 14 years at the helm of the smart energy strategy also made him one of the longest-tenured managers within the sector equity alternative energy Morningstar Category. Until 2018, Lang was supported by RobecoSAM’s centralised equity research and sustainable investing research teams. Following a reorganisation in July of that year, the equity research team was dissolved, and Lang started to receive direct support from Hollfelder and Guennegues.
All three team members will leave the firm per the end of August 2021. In the meantime, Robeco is looking to replace the team in at least a similar setup and potentially reinforce the bench.
