Pierre Puybasset is Spokesman of the fund management Team at La Financière de l’Echiquier (LFDE) since 2012.

He started his professional career at Panthéon-Assas University, before joining Enskilda Securities as a Sales Trader. Twenty years later, he was appointed Head of Equity Paris at Enskilda Securities and joined LFDE in 2003.

Since then, Pierre Puybasset has been Fund Manager of Echiquier Agenor (European Small & Mid Cap listed equities), first paneuropean small and mid cap fund of LFDE; Fund Manager of Echiquier Global and finally Spokesman of the fund management team of LFDE.

When and how did you start your career in the financial industry?

I started in 1986 as a flow trader at la Bourse de Paris, just before the digitalization of the markets. I wasn’t interested in the law I was studying. I jump in the financial industry by chance. In 2003, I had the opportunity swapping from brokerage to fund management and joined La Financière de l’Echiquier.

Did you have any other vocation?

I wanted to be independent.

How does a normal day as a Spokesman of the fund management team of La Financière de l’Echiquier looks like?

It depends. One day, I take a plane very early to meet some clients in France or abroad, another day, at the office in Paris, I check the news and interact with the fund management team. The team is pretty large, with 35 experts.

What is the most interesting part of your role? What do you enjoy the most?

I would say team work and interacting with our investors. I particularly enjoy explaining and sharing in the most understable way our strategies and expertise. Pedagogy and transparency are essential for me and for LFDE.

What are your clients more interested in at the moment?

Getting a vision of the next 6 months and some diversification outside Europe, mostly global strategies.

In your opinion, what are the key drivers for successful fund distribution?

Track record, transparency and, of course, performance.

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to pursue a career in the asset management industry?

Be curious, learn from your mistake and work hard!
