Candriam, a multi-specialist asset manager and leader in responsible investment is pushing ahead with its fund range label accreditation process and has obtained the SRI label from the French government for 16 funds with various asset classes and management strategies: Eurozone fixed income securities, high yield fixed income securities, European, international and emerging equities and thematic funds, corresponding to a total of €6.1 billion (figures at end December 2020). Candriam has also obtained the government Relance Label for its first impact venture capital fund of funds.
These funds include the five funds that were awarded the label in 20181 , and also various thematic and sustainable equity funds such as the Candriam Sustainable Equity Climate Action fund, launched in June 2019, which invests in global companies offering long-term solutions against climate change and which has just reached $1 billion in assets under management (at the end of December 2020), as well as the Candriam Sustainable Equity Circular Economy fund. This is a global equity fund that focuses on promoting a zero-waste economy. It invests in companies that structure their business around the circular economy, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.
The SRI label was also awarded to the Candriam Equities L Oncology Impact health fund, which was launched two years ago and invests in listed companies that develop products and services that actively contribute to the fight against cancer. This fund now has US$2 billion in assets under management (as of end December 2020).
Two European conviction equity funds also made the list: Candriam Equities L Europe Innovation and Candriam Equities L Europe Optimum Quality, which returned 11.8% and 1.8% respectively in 2020.
Lastly, the Candriam Sustainable Equity Emerging Markets strategy, which was one of the first emerging equity funds to adopt an ESG approach 13 years ago, has also been awarded the SRI label. This equity fund invests in emerging market companies that comply with the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, avoiding investments in controversial businesses.
These labels are awarded for a period of 3 years following an audit by AFNOR.
Candriam has also obtained the government Relance Label, launched in October 2020, for its first funds. This label recognises funds committed to the rapid mobilisation of new resources to support the equity and quasi-equity funds of French companies (SMEs and ETIs), both listed and unlisted. The aim is to direct the savings of savers and professional investors towards these investments, which address the financing requirements of the French economy in the wake of the health crisis. Label-accredited funds must also comply with a set of environmental, social and good governance (ESG) criteria, which specifically include a ban on coal-related businesses and the monitoring of an ESG rating or indicator.
“Candriam is proud to have obtained these accreditations, which confirm our role as a key player in the responsible investment market and which are part of the global sustainability strategy which the company initiated over 25 years ago: Educate, Invest and Communicate transparently. Candriam offers a full range of SRI funds with high added value that covers all asset classes and all the major geographical regions. We are pleased to see that today’s most demanding investors are turning to our staff to support them and to deliver financial returns while making a positive impact on society”.Elena Guanter, General Manager for Spain at Candriam
